The Fall Guy: A Hollywood Adventure
In this American action-adventure TV series produced for ABC and originally aired from November 4, 1981, to May 2, 1986, stars Lee Majors, Douglas Barr, and Heather Thomas take center stage. The storyline revolves around Hollywood stunt performers who lead a double life as bounty hunters.
Plot Unveiled
Lee Majors embodies Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman with a side gig as a
bounty hunter. His pursuit of fugitives and criminals is fueled by his physical

his sizable GMC pickup truck. Alongside him is his cousin and aspiring
stuntman, Howie Munson (Barr), hailing from Nashville and often referred to as
"Kid" by Colt. Occasionally joining the team is fellow stuntwoman
Jody Banks (Thomas).

Home Media Release of "The Fall Guy"
On June 5, 2007, the debut season of The Fall Guy was launched on DVD in Region 1 by 20th Century Fox. Similar to several other TV series from that period, the six-disc collection underwent substantial music replacements due to copyright constraints. Additionally, sequences featuring actor/singer Paul Williams were entirely edited out in the pilot episode. The fate of subsequent season releases remains uncertain, possibly influenced by the underwhelming sales of the initial release. The first season also saw a DVD release in Region 2, available in Germany and the UK. Subsequently, Season two followed suit with its Region 2 release, hitting the shelves in Germany on November 28, 2008, and in the UK on February 16, 2009.
Intros
The series introductions creatively combined scenes from the TV series and daring stunt footage from films predating 1981. Lee Majors performed the theme song, "Unknown Stuntman," which was later released as a single.
Season One Montage
In the inaugural season, a montage featuring scenes from Dirty Mary, Crazy
Larry, The Stunt Man, Silver Streak, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The
Hot Rock, Our Man Flint, The Poseidon Adventure, Speedway, and Sky Riders was
showcased. Singin' in the Rain, The Blue Max, Race with the Devil, and Moving
Violation were exclusively used for the season-one opening narration. Archival
footage from 1930s stunt shows was also incorporated.
Seasonal Changes
Post-season two, some movie risk scenes were replaced with stunt sequences
from the TV series.
The Truck
The iconic truck driven by Seavers was a Rounded-Line 1981 GMC K-2500
Wideside with the Sierra Grande equipment package. Additionally, a Rounded-Line
1980 GMC K-25 Wideside with the High Sierra equipment package made appearances.
Due to the toll stunts took on the modified production trucks, various years,
makes (Chevy/GMC), and models were used, leading to inconsistencies in
episodes.
From the second season onwards, General Motors provided three specially
adapted trucks for stunt sequences, featuring an engine moved to a mid-chassis
position under the cab seat. This modification allowed for improved performance
during airborne stunts, enabling reuse for multiple takes and shows.
At the series' conclusion, the remaining trucks were either auctioned or given
away in a contest. One truck was sold on eBay in 2003.

In July 2010, the Los Angeles Times reported on the development of a film
based on the series. DreamWorks, in collaboration with producers Walter F.
Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, initiated the project. Martin Campbell was in
talks to direct the film. Dwayne Johnson was in negotiations for the title role
in September 2013.
However, the planned movie did not materialize. Universal Pictures then outlined a different film loosely inspired by the TV series, starring Ryan Gosling and directed by David Leitch. Emily Blunt was cast in August 2022, and the film is scheduled for release on March 1, 2024.
