MR.MAJNU
Mr.
Majnu, also known as "Mr. Lover Boy," is a 2019 romantic comedy film
in the Telugu language. It was written and directed by Venky Atluri and
produced by B. V. S. N. Prasad under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Cine
Chitra. The film stars Akhil Akkineni and Nidhhi Agerwal in the lead roles.
While the film garnered mixed reviews upon its release, it received praise for
the performances of Akhil and Nidhhi, as well as its soundtrack. However, it
faced criticism for its plot, ultimately resulting in commercial disappointment
at the box office.
This
Telugu film was also dubbed in Hindi and Kannada with the same title, and in
Tamil as "Maanidhan." Additionally, it was remade in the Odia
language under the same name, featuring Babushaan Mohanty and Divyadisha
Mohanty in the lead roles. The Odia version drew inspiration from the 2010
Tamil film "Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai."
PLOT
The
plot of "Mr. Majnu" revolves around Vikram Krishna, known as Vicky, a
charming young man who enjoys flirting and has never been in a serious
relationship. On the other hand, there's Nikitha, or Nikki, a young woman who
dreams of a husband with the qualities of Lord Ram. Their paths cross when
Nikki discovers Vicky's notoriety after he was caught in a compromising
situation with the university dean's daughter. Nikki's brother is set to marry
Vicky's younger sister, and Nikki is reluctantly assigned to go shopping with
Vicky. Over time, Nikki discovers Vicky's more sensitive side and falls in love
with him.
She
proposes a two-month relationship to Vicky, who eventually agrees, albeit
hesitantly, with the condition that both families remain unaware. However, the
relationship becomes overwhelming for Vicky, and Nikki accidentally reveals
their secret to their families, resulting in a hasty arranged marriage. Feeling
pressured and unhappy, Vicky confides in his best friend Chitti, which Nikki
overhears. She then publicly breaks up with him, believing she is a burden to
Vicky and that he is not content with her.
Nikki
eventually leaves for London, and Vicky realizes his true feelings for her,
following her to London to prove his love. However, he faces a hostile
reception in Nikki's community, as they hold a grudge against him after
learning about his past. Vicky goes by the name Krishna and tries to befriend
Nikki's family. Despite his efforts to win her back, Nikki remains adamant and
rejects him. He eventually confesses the truth to Nikki's family and plans to
return to India.
Realizing
her mistake and the depth of Vicky's love, Nikki hurries to stop him from
leaving London. She parks her car erratically and searches for him, witnessing
him talking to a girl he had previously flirted with. In a fit of anger, she
confronts the girl, only to learn that she was inviting Vicky to her wedding.
With the misunderstandings cleared, Nikki and Vicky reconcile and get married.
The film concludes with a humorous twist, as the police file a case against
Nikki for damaging the car, and she attempts to explain it was accidental. The
story ends with Vicky preparing to charm the lady officer, indicating that he
will always be a "lover boy."
